Black History Month
Black History Month, celebrated every February, honors the history, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans who have helped shape our nation. It began in 1926 as Negro History Week, founded by historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who believed it was important for children and adults alike to learn about Black history as an essential part of American history. Over time, it expanded into Black History Month to allow deeper learning and reflection. At our daycare, we recognize this month by celebrating diversity, kindness, and inclusion, while introducing children to positive role models, cultural traditions, and the importance of respect for all people. Learning about history helps children build understanding, pride, and empathy from an early age.
